NFTs are dead, long live NFTs. While many 10k PFPs are fading into obscurity, nonfungible tokens are here to stay. Yet, to experience NFTs' full potential, the L2 and the wallet need to work together. In this post, we will explore how NFTs on ZERϴ will work.
What makes ZERϴ different
ZERϴ Network is created to make the onchain experience more enjoyable and rewarding.
At first glance, ZERϴ is very similar to the mainnet Ethereum and L2s, both for developers and users.
The main difference in ZERϴ’s first iteration is that the fees will be zero, not just low, like on most L2s.
And it’s not just about the cost. Gas fees are an annoying barrier when you just start exploring onchain and want to mint some “free” NFT but need a few cents for the mint transaction.
Thanks to the native account abstraction (AA), gas fees on ZERϴ will be removed for the user. Under the hood, transactions will be sponsored by a paymaster, which is a special smart contract that is only possible on a network with AA.
While the tech can be complicated, the end result is simple: minting NFTs on ZERϴ will be truly free!
Even with no funds on ZERϴ, eligible users will be able to mint. They could also send, deposit, burn, or do any other onchain NFT transactions — with zero fees.
To prevent network abuse, ZERϴ will rely on ‘Onchain DNA’, a dynamic scoring system to evaluate if wallet addresses are eligible for free transactions. This means that all minters on ZERϴ will be genuine high-quality users.
NFTs in Zerion Wallet
ZERϴ NFTs will be best experienced in Zerion Wallet.
Zerion Wallet already displays NFTs across all major EVM networks. Zerion helps you make sense of your whole NFT portfolio, tracking floor prices, filtering and arranging items and collections.
NFTs in Zerion are also more than just JPEGs and feature the full range of media:
- Sounds, including music and podcasts
- Videos
- Interactive iframes
It’s better to see this for yourself — just install Zerion Wallet on mobile or as a browser extension.
The NFT and address tracking are also available via Zerion API, which powers Rainbow Wallet, Uniswap, and many other wallets and dapps. By the way, all builders on ZERϴ can get grants for API credits for their applications.
ZERϴ potential
One of the leading NFT platforms, Highlight, is already building on ZERϴ in preparation for the mainnet launch. From day one, Highlight will give everyone an opportunity to create mints on ZERϴ, potentially reaching Zerion’s >500k active onchain users.
That will be just the beginning.
The combination of ZERϴ and Zerion will open up new opportunities for NFT creators and builders.
- Free onchain media. With zero fees, minting can be as easy as hitting ‘like’ on a social media post. At the same time, the onchain footprint from NFTs can be used to create new experiences, unlock features, give access, map out the social graph, and more.
- Dynamic NFTs. The media can change and evolve with onchain actions. These onchain actions can be easily tracked with Zerion API.
- Onchain gaming. More in-game objects can live onchain as NFTs at zero cost to the user.
- Web2-like onchain actions. Things like user accounts or posts can exist as NFTs, bringing the social graph onchain. The best part is that for the user, creating and managing these accounts is free, smooth, and fast—making onchain feel like online.
In future iterations, ZERϴ + Zerion will also bring new capabilities through native account abstraction. This could include creating scheduled or recurring transactions. In turn, this will open new NFT opportunities that are hard to imagine now.
What’s next
Right now, ZERϴ is still in testnet. While there isn’t much for end users, builders can already play with the network and see how free transactions work. If you’re building something with NFTs and want to deploy on ZERϴ, fill out the builders’ form, and we’ll be in touch.
See you onchain!
