How to Bridge to ZERϴ Network

The first step to using a new Layer 2 network is to bridge funds. Even if transactions are free, you still need funds to swap for tokens or to buy NFTs. In this post, we’ll exp

First, there are two types of bridges: official bridges and third-party bridges. Both ways are great, although costs and security trade-offs can be different.

Please note: There are no ‘secret advantages’ to using official bridges. Use whichever you want.

The Official Bridge ZERϴ Bridge

The official (canonical) ZERϴ bridge is a set of smart contracts on Ethereum and ZERϴ, which lets anyone transfer funds between the two networks.

ZERϴ Network’s official bridge is also embedded within Zerion’s Bridge tab, which finds the best route for bridging.

It’s very easy to bridge to ZERϴ:

  • Open Zerion Wallet or Zerion Web app
  • Ethereum is selected as the ‘from’ network
  • ZERϴ is already selected as the default ‘To’ network
  • ETH is selected as the default ‘send’ token
  • As ‘receive,’ you can pick USDC — on ZERϴ, you can use it without ETH (zero gas!)
  • Hit ‘Send’ and sign the transaction

Currently, the native or canonical bridge supports only mainnet Ethereum.

Therefore, transfers to ZERϴ can take about 15-20 minutes. Withdrawals are slower and take up to 7 days.

Finally, mainnet Ethereum can be expensive if gas price is high. The official L2 support is coming very soon, so you won’t need to spend a lot.

If you just can’t wait to start from zero, use third-party bridges.

Third-Party Bridges

Although these bridges are not officially supported by ZERO, they are a great way to bridge quickly and cheaply.

Relay

Built by Reservoir (ZERϴ’s partner), Relay is a cross-chain payments system that can be used for instant bridging.

Relay maintains balances on each chain and executes transfers as soon as an order is received (usually a few seconds!). There are no fees and the only cost is the slippage.

Currently, Relay supports over 40 chains, and it’s constantly adding new networks.

To bridge to ZERϴ:

  1. Select ZERϴ as the ‘To’ chain
  2. Select any network as the ‘From’ chain — Relay will highlight assets that you have on those networks
  3. For assets, it’s best to select ETH on both networks to avoid any issues with liquidity
  4. Click ‘Trade’, sign the TX and in a few seconds ETH will show up on ZERϴ

If you have any problems, you can check the status of your transaction by entering your address in the search field.

Owlto

Owlto Finance is a cross-rollup bridge that supports many Ethereum L2s, Bitcoin L2s,  Solana, and many other networks.

Owlto's Maker system maintains liquidity on all chains. There are bridge fees and the destination TX fees. Both fees are added to your transaction and are paid to the Maker.

To bridge to ZERϴ:

  1. Select ZERϴ as the ‘To’ chain
  2. Select any network as the ‘From’ chain — fees might vary
  3. For assets, it’s best to select ETH
  4. Sign transactions and ETH will show up on ZERϴ — Owlto estimates the time
